Lara Bors, Garden City Public Schools’ Board Member, has been appointed to serve on the Kansas School Mental Health Advisory Council. She will be serving as a board of education representative, and she will be providing a voice for local school boards in the position on the council. The council was formed by the Kansas State Board of Education in July. The group will be holding its first meeting on August 25, at the Kansas State Department of Education, in Topeka, Kansas.
The School Mental Health Advisory Council will be chaired by State Board Vice Chairwoman Kathy Busch of Wichita. The panel will have 25 members and include representatives from numerous groups and stakeholders. The panel will address the mental health and social and emotional growth needs of students. It will be providing recommendations before the 2018 legislative session, which starts in January.
