Teacher spotlight: Satvinder Kalley

Hannah Kipp  Sugar Beet staff reporter  From all the way across the Atlantic, Satvinder Kalley, public service ESL math teacher, is one of the most interesting faculty members at Garden City High School. Kalley was born in a small village called Kila Raipur in northern India in 1959.

Choir Buffs perform at All-State Competition

Kiana Hankins  Sugar Beet Reporter  Every year, the Kansas Music Educators Association, or KMEA, hosts the All-State  choir, band and orchestra. There are multiple groups for each, such as the 1-4A band, 5-6A band, jazz band, orchestra, treble choir, mixed choir, 3-5th grade choir and 6-9th grade choir.

Bowling knocks down competition

Olivia Hanigan Sugar Beet staff reporter The GCHS bowling team competed in the WAC tournament at Garden Bowl on February 14th, 2019. They came out on top, winning a total of 83 points for the GCHS WAC standing. Great Bend came in second with 53 total points throughout the season, Dodge City came in third with 36 points, and Liberal came in fourth with two points.

Buffs collect shoes for charity across the globe

Clothing drives are decades-old ways to give back to those in need. This semester, Garden City High School student council decided to try a new spin on the old idea. Along with other schools and businesses in Garden City, student council is collecting new and used shoes for charity.

Evita cast set to perform this weekend

Kiana Hankins Sugar Beet Reporter Evita is a story about Eva Duarte Perón, portrayed by Monica Aguilar, arts and communications junior. Perón was a young actress in Bueno Aires who later became the First Lady of Argentina.
