LADY BUFFS GOLF: Monday, Sept. 28, 2020
On Thursday, Sept. 24, the Lady Buffs golf team hosted its annual invitational with 8 teams competing at Buffalo Dunes Golf Course.
Conditions created tough playing for all contestants as the Lady Buffs placed third in the team standings with a 4-person score of 409 as Hays High continued its dominance in the Western Athletic Conference race, winning with a 386 score while Dodge City was second with 397.
Ryan Warren was the Lady Buffs’ top finisher, placing fifth with a score of 97. Mati Newman of Valley Center was individual medalist with an 82 over the par-72 layout. Taleia McCrae of Hays was second with an 88 as the only two players to break 90.
Other results for the Lady Buffs were Allie Sandoval in 11th at 101; Emma Ortiz with a 105 in 16th; Rian Linenberger in a 17th place tie at 106, Jerika Lopez in 19th at 108 and Hannah Plummer in 20th at 110. There were 46 golfers competing.
Other team scores include Valley Center in fourth at 414, Great Bend fifth at 422, Hays JV sixth at 453, Dodge City JV seventh at 485 and Liberal eighth at 507.
Through four WAC events, Hays High’s team is in first place with Dodge City second and Garden City third. Warren is tied for second individually with Hays’ Sophie Garrison while McCrae of Hays leads the WAC Player of the Year race.
Next up will be the State Preview on Tuesday, Sept. 29, at the Hesston Municipal Golf Course. That will be the site of the Class 6A state tourney in mid-October.
